I've been cursed with the horrible assignment of going to a convention in
Orlando in late May. Curses, oh the horror of it, darn, drat and doggone it!

Okay, so I asked to go, well volunteered actually!

Anyway this darn thing is at Disney World, of all the rotten places, and the
hotel I'll be stuck at is the Dolphin. And darned if arrangements are being
made so that I arrive a day early and leave a day after! Gosh, what rotten
timing.

Any place to fly nearby? Wife and kids won't be going, and she won't let me
take her secretary (all right "Administrative Assistant") Hate crowds and
lines (unless attached to sticks and fabric), so Disney World isn't my idea of
fun. If I bring my kites, in lieu of baggage, and for carry-on, a couple of
quads and a pair of shorts (cut-offs) any place nearby to fly?

I am NOT short, I'm vertically challenged!

Hallo..

I go to Orlando a lot. I stay at the Grand Cypress. The folks there are
really nice, and they let me fly on their pitch n putt golf course
anytime. Wonderful! Check it out..

cheers

Ok. I'll try and show off and tell you about the local spots in a location
several time zones away from me...

The only Flying Field is next to the Holiday Inn. Not the Holiday Inn on
International, but rather go north up International, turn left over the
free-way and the field is on the right, next to *that* Holiday Inn... It's
not a particularly good spot and it was kinda long grass when I was there,
kite it's all there is...

There is a good Kite Store in a complex of little stores towards the South
of International. I found it through the tourist-guide book that seems to
be in every hotel room.

Cypress Gardens is kinda dull as theme parks go (my gran loved it!) but
the word is that they are putting on an impressive kite show several times
a day.

I really wish that I'd had the bottle to fly Natalie over Disneyworld...

No doubt a local will post corrections...

Andrew

Good Luck, was just in Disney and the only open spaces I saw were either water
or parking lots. Who knows you might find something, don't let my negativity
get you down. I was more involved with the attractions than the kiting, sorry
everybody my life doesn't revolve around kites.

You might be able to find an area to fly small kites and such, good luck.

There was a pretty nice park that was used as a demo field when I was in
Orlando for the KTA convention in January, but I couldn't tell you for
sure where it was as I went on a shuttle bus.. Try contacting Krazy
Kites.. They should be able to point you to some local flying spots..

Sorry to tune into this one a bit late....I couldnt find the original.

Sites around Disney?

The site off the corner of Universal Studio is where people gather. The
people from the nearby kite store go there to do demos and such.

I wish I could remember the street name but its a major roadway where
it intersects with the highway towards Disney.

Curious to see if we have any kite enthusiasts in the Orlando, FLorida
region. I have a class of middle schoolers who are going to try to
launch some home made kites this Friday.

Contact Crazy kites. They should be able to help.

I know Manuel Mercado, flier extrodinaire, is down there.

Gentle breezes,

Steve
