Subject: (Q) still hunting for airport under $260

Dear Digest readers,
I have a 7200 which if there was a PCI card that could transmit
airport frequencies, I could use as a base station. Anybody know of
one? The cheapest base station I could find is the Air station by
Techworks for $270, and a Linksys that supports 802.11b for the $260.
802.11b is the airport frequency, isn't it? I realize I'll have to
get the Farallon or Lucent card for my Wallstreet Powerbook. Any
cards that are cheaper than $170? And where can I get them?

Thank you.
Sincerely,

Anagrams is a fast and friendly anagram generator -- a handy companion
for Scrabble and crossword fans. David Pogue wrote in Macworld:
"Meet the new champion ... polished, screamingly fast".

Version 2.0 is a major new release with some important changes:

- I've finally added support for non-English languages.
Word lists can contain accented letters and other 8-bit characters.
You also have more control on how words are delimited when using
  Add Words from Text File.

- The Help and Edit windows are now fully modeless. The Help window
supports links to URLs and other topics.

- The Edit window allows grep-like pattern matching to find one or
more words. You can also drag and drop words. If the Edit window
is open when you select Add Words from Text File then all added
words will be selected for you to see (and possibly delete).

- You can now change the main window's background color.

Anagrams is a fat app that runs on all Macs using System 7 or later.
The shareware fee is $15. For more details see the Anagrams page:

Subject: [*] AudioGraph 3.2.3 Sound Analysis Software

Sutherland Studios Software - AudioGraph v3.2.3 Shareware US$25

AudioGraph 3 is a scientific sound analysis program, intended for
biological sciences and particularly for animal sound and human speech
analysis. AudioGraph reproduces the abilities of a Kay sonagram using
on an Apple Macintosh computer or other MacOS clone. With the added
benefit that the sonogram and soundwave displays can be measured for
frequency and levels interactively. The digitisation is carried out
using either the built-in digitiser in modern Macs or one of the many
commercial devices available for the Mac, such as the old low end
MacRecorder hardware or modern sophisticated PCI sound cards like the
AudioMedia III . AudioGraph will run on a Mac Plus or newer, and it
has been tested on many different models up to a G4. It has been tested
on system 6.0.8 through to 9.0.4. A PowerMac is recommended for the
full colour and oscilloscope features.

AudioGraph provides sound digitisation facilities on newer Macintosh
computers using the system standard interface. Professional digitisation
is better carried out with special hardware and software, AudioGraph can
then be used to analyse the sound files produced.

The plots can be in greyscale or false colour (or both)with scale
changes in 3db intervals or smooth gradation. These audiographs can be
printed in colour or in black and white. For scientific purposes
documentation is very important, so each audiograph and measurement file
records time, date, sound file name, frequency and time resolution and
range, along with all the settings used to produce the audiograph. A
comment facility is provided to allow notes to be included in all
measurement files, so reproducibility is made easier.

Registration is with a serial number and payments can be made via Kagi.

Abstract:
CuliDataBase is an application for managing culinary recipes, supporting

you have the 68K version.
A simple click with the mouse lets you put ingredients on a shopping list.
Recipes can be scaled up or down according to number of servings, while the
singular or plural form of the ingredients' names is taken care of as well,
so '1 bay leaf ' will become '2 bay leaves' or vice versa. This works in
English, French and Dutch.
To illustrate your recipes, you can import pictures of dishes.
Finally, you've got a list with culinary terms that you can extend yourself,
and an Internet menu that you can modify to go to your favorite sites.
An unregistered copy of CuliDataBase is fully functional, apart from the

Jrju v0.9 (The Spider) Tool for Self-Organizing Hypertext

Jrju (Chinese for spider) is a Perl program that weaves hypertext
"notebooks" from plain text files. An author creates notebook pages using
the JTX markup format. Jrju will process a directory of JTX files into a
cross-linked collection of HTML pages. Jrju rebuilds the entire notebook
each time so there are no broken links or orphan pages.

Summary of Features

Uses plain text files (no HTML markup!)
    Automatic creation of hierarchical indexes
    Automatic linking of cross-references
    Automatic linking of inverse references
    Automatic placement of graphics
Automatic linking of external resources (URLs)
    Automatic linking of email addresses
Support for modest HTML formatting (paragraphs, lists)
Available without cost for non-commercial use

Files Included in this Package

extras folder ...... contains help and graphic files
jrju folder ........ the user's manual
Jrju App ........... the application (includes MacPerl runtime)
Jrju Droplet ....... the "droplet" for use with MacPerl
Jrju09.pl .......... the Perl script in plain text
readme.html ........ more information and links
    title.ttx .......... title file template

Installation

First you must edit the OS variable to match your system:

$os = 'Mac'; # Mac, DOS, or Unix

Next install Perl, or use the runtime application (Mac only).

If you are using a Macintosh, save Jrju as a MacPerl "droplet". To use the
program simply drag and drop notebook directories containing JTX files on
this icon.

If you are using Unix, save Jrju as an executable script. You will need to
modify the first #! line to match your system and set the file to
"executable." To use the program, type at the command line:

Morse Mania version 1.9.1

Morse Mania is a morse code tutor for the Macintosh. It helps you learn
morse code by first introducing you to the morse alphabet, so you can learn
what each character sounds like. Then you can practice by listening to
random characters being sent, and test your ability. This version adds the
ability to play a text file, making it easy to create your own practice
sessions.

In addition to drills to help learn the various characters, Morse Mania
also allows complete text files to be sent, so that "real life" messages
can be used for practice.

It also supports the Farnsworth mode, which increases the speed of the dots
and dashes, and lengthens the pause between letters sent, allowing the
student to learn morse code at higher speeds more easily.

Subject: iMacDV display problems

My girlfriend recently bought an iMacDV,(at my urging),and of course
it was D.O.A.Not exactly doa,but the video-analog board needed to be
replaced.I noticed the other day that there is a small portion of the
screen which seems to be discolored. It is at the lower right corner
of the screen, very close to the internal speaker.I was wondering if
there is supposed to be some kind of shielding for the speaker that
may have been left out when the video board was replaced, and if so is
it going to cause problems if not fixed. The discoloring is VERY minor
almost un-noticeable,in fact she hasn't noticed it yet and I'm
undecided as to whether or not to point it out.It is entirely
possible that I am imagining this, just because I was told how they
had to disassemble so much just to get to the part that needed
replacing. So to re-cap;is there some shielding for the speaker that
if left out would cause discoloration, and if so is this something
that can cause serious damage if not fixed.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any advice you can offer.
