Or is it simple enough to use a simple console? --------------1B83C16963B8C9064704D47B Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi,
I am trying to create a boot/root disk for linux (Kernel 2.4.2).
I have created the boot disk and when loaded it prompts like

VFS: Insert root floppy disk to be loaded into RAM disk and press ENTER.
When I enter the root disk, I get the following error messages

RAMDISK: Compressed Image found at block 0 (which I feel is correct and it should)
invalid compressed format (err=2)<6> Serial driver version 5.02 (2000-08-09) with MANY_PORTS MULTIPORT SHARE_IRQ SERIAL_PCI ISAPNP enabled
   ttyS00 at 0x03fd ( irq =4) is a 16550A
   ttyS00 at 0x03fd ( irq =4) is a 16550A
Real Time Clock Driver v1.10d
md driver 0.90.0 MAX_MD_DEVS=256, MD_SB_DISKS=27
md.c: sizeof(mdp_super_t) = 4096
autodetecting RAID arrays
autorun...
...autorun DONE.
NET4: Linux TCP/IP 1.0 for NET4.0
IP Protocols : ICMP,UDP,TCP,IGMP
IP: routing cache hash table of 4096 buckets, 32Kbytes
TCP: Hash Tables configured (established 13072 bind
65536)
Linux IP multicast router 0.06 plus PIM-SM
VFS: Insert root floppy and press ENTER

Again when I press enter it tells

Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 02:00

I am thinking of that something could be wrong with root disk and trying to create a new one.

  Can someone help me .

komala

I believe you would look into "kickstart" if you want to use RedHat. There
are also some others for different distros. I have never used them so
someone else will probably have better info. Problem would probably be that
every system is different and sometimes hardware doesn't configure easily
automatically.
Will the app need Xwindows? Or is it simple enough to use a simple console?
