OBJECT:
-------

The purpose of this directory is to offer few test images commonly
used in the field of image processing and image compression. Because
of limited resources, only images having special interest focus on
them, are stored here. So far, only gray-scale images are included.
Test results for various methods will be added with the course of time.



HOW TO USE:
-----------

Most of the images are in Sun raster file format. This format contains
header information, and the data is not compressed in any way. To convert
them into another format, you may use either pbmplus (e.g. rasttopgm) or 
whatever image processing tool you have access to. 

Binary images are in tagged image file format (TIFF) and are compressed
by the (lossless) CCITT G4 algorithm included in TIFF. To convert these
images into another format, you may use Image Alchemy or any other
software supporting TIFF's compression method 4.
