A Swiss made Stadler FLIRT train of Algerian railways SNTF, here at the Innotrans railway fair show in Berlin, Germany.

A similar FLIRT train in use in Algeria. SNTF has 64 of these four coaches long FLIRTs. They are used only in short-haul commuter traffic near the
capital city of Algiers.

This new train is an Alstom Coradia Polyvalent. It is able to run under a catenary as an electric EMU train with 25 kV AC as well as without electricity
as a diesel DMU. Similar trains are being rolled out in France too. Alstom got an agreement to deliver 17 of these trains to Algeria in 2017. This individual
train seems to have been involved in some accident as it is missing one plastic+fiberglass part under its nose.

These Algerian locomotives look a bit exotic. The front is almost like in a German electric locomotive but all the rest is like from a huge US style
diesel - which it actually is. It is a six axles type built by General Motors in USA. Algerian SNTF has 14 of them and they were delivered since 2008.
Its power rating is 2574 kW and top speed is 160 km/h. It's a dieselelectric machine.

This big diesel is of the type 060 DM of the Algerian national railways SNTF.
The class 060 DM (often referred to as 060DM or 060-DM) is a series of diesel-electric locomotives operated by the Algerian National Railway Company (SNTF).
These locomotives are part of the US built Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) GT26HCW-2A family, often seen in a distinctive blue livery. They are used in Algeria
both for passenger and for cargo traffic and they have a reputation of being quite reliable machines. Algerian railways has 10 of these machines and they
were delivered from 1985 onwards. The machine has a power rating of 2400 kW and a top speed of 125 km/h. Like here, they are often used on short-haul services
not far from the capital.
Note on the right the front of a steering cab coach used in local push-pull traffic.

Algerian train in Tunis
This is an Algerian train in Tunisia waiting for its departure time from Tunis towards Annaba. The two locomotives are of the type 060DJ which is a shunter machine by design.
These locomotives were built in 1977. They have a power rating of only 1400 kW and a top speed of 100 km/h. A normal line diesel would be typically around 2400 kW, so that
explains why two locomotives were needed. The machines were built by General Electric in the USA.

These inox coaches of Algerian national railways SNTF were built in France. This one is a first class coach.

This one coach of Algerian national railways SNTF is a generator wagon. A separate generator wagon is needed as the locomotives used were intended as shunters and therefore
are unable to provide the train with electricity.

Trams
This is an Alstom Citadis tram in the city of Oran, Algeria. Oran has just one tram line which is 18,7 km long. The line was opened for service
in 2013. It is operated by the Société d'Exploitation des Tramways SETRAM and is owned by the Entreprise Métro d'Alger, the metro system of
the city of Algier. Oran had a tram network 1899-1951 already during the colonial time when Algeria belonged to France. It had a line length
of around 50 km and a gauge width of 1055 mm. The current line is of normal gauge 1435 mm.

Metro
Construction of a metro system in Algiers was started in 1980 but that project never yielded any results. The project was relaunched in 2006 with Siemens and CAF as the
main constructors. Regular service started in 2011. There are now 14 six coaches long metro trains built by the Spanish CAF.
