I'd LOVE to ssh, if I had a clue on that.  

I appreciate your emphasis on the telnet.  I will try and find
something on ssh, as I will need to do that once I know my way around.

I was able to get in with a regular user, but unable to run route,
which I guess is because root and my other user don't have the same
path.  Another lesson I need to read down the road.
